Are you having trouble connecting your business’ professional Instagram account to your Meta Business Suite?
Let me tell you… this is a common issue, and you’re not the only one!
In fact, I helped one of my students sort out this issue last week for a brand account she manages locally.
Are you ready for some problem-solving? Here we go!
1. Disconnect, and reconnect Instagram and Facebook
In other words, have you tried turning it off and on again?
Here’s how to disconnect from Facebook.
BUT – before you reconnect, I want you to check from Instagram that the account has been disconnected.
Congratulations, you’ve officially separated Facebook from Instagram.
Now, go ahead and reconnect the accounts. It doesn’t matter which order, but if you’re already in Instagram, start there.
Did that work? Yes? Awesome!
No, still not working? Don’t worry, we’ll take this to Level 2 Facebook Problem-Solving.
2. Ownership of the Facebook Page and Instagram Account
If you are getting the error message, “You do not have administrative privileges to manage Instagram,” then the error exists within the Meta Business Manager (Note: this is different than the Meta Business Suite).
If that is the case, navigate to business.facebook.com/settings
In the Meta Business Manager, you will have to confirm that the Business Manager “Owns” the Facebook Page. If not, you may have to complete some detective work to determine where the ownership of the account exists. If you have no idea, consider current or previous employees, or current or previous marketing companies/consultants. Once this person is identified, simply request that they transfer ownership to the company.
Note: If you cannot determine ownership, you can contact Facebook directly to assist with this transfer.
Once the ownership is in your possession, this may have solved the issue. If not, there is one last tactic to attempt!
3. Ownership of Ad Account
Often times this step this goes hand-in-hand with #2. Once ownership is confirmed, the Instagram account will require access to a functional Meta Ad Account.
You can either create a new Advertising Account, or simply transfer ownership of this account from the previous administrator.
There you go. Those are the two 3 ways to fix a broken connection between Facebook and Instagram.
