Linking Google Ads to Google Business Profiles: Why It Matters & How to Do It

If your business relies on local clients, simply running ads isn’t enough, you need to make it easy for nearby customers to find and trust you instantly.

One of the most effective ways to do this is by linking your Google Ads account with your Google Business Profile.

This connection helps your business appear more prominently in local searches, maps, and ads, right when potential clients are looking for your services.

What Is a Google Business Profile?

Your Google Business Profile (formerly Google My Business) is your business listing that appears in Google Search and Maps. It shows key information like your location, hours, reviews, and contact details.

Why Link It to Google Ads?

When you connect your profile to Google Ads, you unlock several benefits:

  1. Show Your Location in Ads
Your ads can display your address, map pin, and distance – making it easier for nearby customers to find you.
  2. Boost Trust with Reviews
Customers can see your ratings and reviews directly in your ads, increasing credibility.
  3. Drive More Local Traffic
Location extensions help bring more calls, visits, and clicks from people searching in your area.
  4. Improve Ad Performance
Ads with location details tend to perform better, especially for service-based and local businesses.

How to Link Google Ads to Google Business Profile

Follow the steps below based on your level of access to your Google Business Profile:

If you have access to the Business Profile:

  1. Sign in to your Google Ads account
  2. Click Tools & Settings
  3. Under “Setup,” select Linked accounts
  4. Choose Business Profile
  5. Click Details
  6. Select your Business Profile from the list
  7. Click Link to connect

Your accounts will be linked instantly.

If you Do NOT have access to the Business Profile:

  1. Sign in to your Google Ads account
  2. Click Tools & Settings
  3. Under “Setup,” select Linked accounts
  4. Choose Business Profile
  5. Click Details
  6. Click Request access
  7. Enter the email associated with the Business Profile
  8. Send the request

The Business Profile owner will need to approve your request before the accounts can be linked.

Once connected, you can enable location extensions in your campaigns to display your business address, map location, and contact details in your ads—helping drive more local traffic and leads.

How to Avoid Common Linking Issues

1. Use the Correct Email Access

Make sure you’re signed into Google Ads with the same email that has access to the Business Profile. If not, request access first or switch accounts before linking.

2. Check Business Profile Permissions

Only Owners or Managers of a Business Profile can approve linking requests.
If your request isn’t getting approved, confirm the right person has access.

3. Avoid Duplicate Listings

Multiple or duplicate Business Profiles for the same business can prevent proper linking.
Ensure you’re linking the correct and active listing.

4. Enable Location Extensions Properly

After linking, make sure location extensions are actually turned on in your campaigns—linking alone isn’t enough.

Linking your Google Ads account with your Google Business Profile is a quick, high-impact step to improve your local visibility and attract more qualified leads.
