Is your business utilizing Google’s “Google My Business?”
If you’re not sure, Google your business name, followed by a location. (Don’t worry, I’ll wait.)
When the search completed, did a map appear on the right hand-side?
- Yes – Great! Your business has been listed in Google My Business.
- No – Sorry! Your business hasn’t been listed in Google My Business. It looks like you have some work to do.
What is Google My Business?
Google My Business is a product developed by (you guessed it!) Google to help businesses, products, brands, artists, and organizations get found on Google. Google My Business appears on the right-hand side of the screen after performing a search, and includes a map, address, and reviews. Unlike Google AdWords, Google My Business is a free product.
Get on the Web
Verified businesses can manage their business information, including phone number, website, emails, address, and hours of operation. In addition, individuals can view and leave reviews about their recent experiences. All of this information is readily available for individuals searching for your business.
If you are unable to update business information, you will need to complete the verification process either by phone or regular mail.
Get on Maps
Without having a street address, a verified business will appear on Google Maps, helping customers find your location and get appropriate directions for their mode of transportation (e.g. public transit, walking, driving). All an individual has to do is search your business name plus location (e.g. city), to be provided with an exact location.
Google My Business also provides users with insights about visibility, including Google+ page, post, and photo views. Statistics are also provided about user demographics and audience engagement. This is a great way to track the ongoing progress of your account.
